Crescenta Valley, Valley between San Gabriel Mountains and Verdugo Mountains in Los Angeles County, United States.
Crescenta Valley stretches between the San Gabriel Mountains and Verdugo Mountains, forming a natural corridor through the mountains of Los Angeles County. The region connects the San Fernando Valley with the San Gabriel Valley and is home to several residential communities.
The valley was originally home to the Tongva people, who established three main settlements including Wikangna in Las Barras Canyon. Spanish colonization later transformed the area into ranchland and shaped how the region developed.
The communities of La Crescenta-Montrose and La Cañada Flintridge each have their own character while sharing the mountain setting. Residents here value the proximity to nature and the quieter pace compared to other parts of Los Angeles.
You can reach the valley via Foothill Boulevard, Interstate 210, and the Glendale Freeway, which connect through Los Angeles County. These roads pass through the different communities and make it easy to access various parts of the valley.
The name Crescenta was chosen by Benjamin Briggs to reflect the curved shape of the valley between the two mountain ranges. This geographic feature made the name choice natural and remains visible in the curved landscape today.
