California's 45th congressional district, Congressional district in Orange County and Los Angeles County, United States.
California's 45th congressional district is a voting area in Orange County and Los Angeles County, southeast of Los Angeles. The district covers cities such as Garden Grove, Westminster, Cerritos, Buena Park, Placentia, Hawaiian Gardens, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Artesia, Los Alamitos, Rossmoor, and La Palma.
The district was created after the 1980 census and was located in Riverside County between 2003 and 2013. Its boundaries later shifted to Orange County and Los Angeles County, forming the current configuration.
The district population comprises 38.4% Asian residents, 30% Hispanic residents, and 25.2% White residents, reflecting California's multicultural demographics.
Voters in the district may submit mail-in ballots up to seven days after election day if postmarked by the official election date. This rule gives voters more flexibility in casting their votes and extends the deadline for incoming ballots.
The 2023 election between Michelle Steel and Derek Tran saw outside spending exceed 33.8 million dollars. This amount made the race the most expensive House contest nationwide during that election cycle.
