Slover Mountain, Limestone mountain in Colton, San Bernardino County, United States.
This is a limestone formation in the San Bernardino Valley south of Colton, shaped by mineral deposits and geological activity. The ridgeline features exposed rock layers that reveal the area's ancient marine past.
The peak gained its name from Isaac Slover, a 19th-century hunter who settled near Agua Mansa in 1842. His encounter with a grizzly bear became the reason for his death and the mountain's lasting name.
Native people called this peak Tahualtapa, meaning raven hill. Spanish settlers later named it Cerrito Solo, which translates to solitary little hill.
The area is mostly private property and on-foot access is limited or restricted. Visitors should check local conditions and ask about possible viewing points before planning a trip to the site.
Extensive limestone quarrying throughout the 20th century dramatically reduced this peak's original height. What was once the highest summit in the San Bernardino Valley is now a much lower landform.
