Eloy

Eloy is a desert city located in Pinal County between Phoenix and Tucson in the Sonoran Desert region. The town sits on a plateau with flat terrain and sparse vegetation typical of the arid landscape.

The Southern Pacific Railroad established the settlement in 1902 as a train stop, giving it a name derived from a railroad line code. The rail connection served as the lifeblood of early growth.

The annual Fiestas Patrias celebration brings the community together with parades and Folklorico dance performances rooted in Mexican heritage. These festivities reflect the diverse population and remain central to local identity.

The city is easily accessible from the main highway and offers basic services for passing travelers. The best time to visit is during cooler months, as summers become extremely hot in the desert.

The location is a global center for skydiving, home to one of the world's largest drop zones. Planes regularly take off carrying skydivers who jump over the desert landscape.
