The observatory contains multiple telescopes at an elevation of 2791 meters in the Santa Catalina Mountains northeast of Tucson, Arizona.
The facility started in 1954 as Mount Lemmon Air Force Station before transforming into an infrared observatory under Steward Observatory management in 1970.
The Mount Lemmon SkyCenter provides astronomy programs where visitors observe celestial objects through professional-grade telescopes alongside experienced astronomers.
The observatory offers remote astrophotography sessions and virtual star parties, allowing participants to explore space phenomena from any location.
The 1.52-meter telescope discovered asteroid 2011 AG5, which became notable for reaching level 1 on the Torino Scale of impact hazards.
