El Salado is a corregimiento within the municipality of El Carmen de Bolívar, Colombia, set in the hilly terrain of the Montes de María region. The area consists of a small central settlement surrounded by farmland and scattered rural plots.
The area was settled during the colonial period and slowly grew into a farming community over the following centuries. In 2000, armed groups carried out a massacre that killed dozens of residents and forced most of the population to flee.
El Salado is known for its tobacco fields, which have shaped the daily life of its residents for generations. Walking through the area, you can see the dried leaves and small farms that make this agricultural tradition visible.
