Municipio San Francisco

San Francisco Municipality is located in Zulia State near Lake Maracaibo and is divided into seven administrative parishes. The territory serves as a key transportation hub connecting major highways and cities across the region.

San Francisco became an independent municipality in 1995 after separating from administrative divisions previously governed by Maracaibo. This separation allowed for more localized management and development of the growing population.

Each of the seven parishes in San Francisco Municipality maintains its own local identity through regular community gatherings and traditional celebrations throughout the year.

La Chinita International Airport is located within the municipality for air travel arrivals and departures. The General Rafael Urdaneta Bridge serves as the main crossing for reaching neighboring Santa Rita and accessing regional highways.

The Zulia Metropolitan Zoo and botanical garden are located within the municipality, offering natural spaces for residents and visitors. These facilities create a place where nature and urban life come together for recreation and education.
