San Francisco Municipality extends over 216 square kilometers near Lake Maracaibo, divided into seven administrative parishes with a population of 446,757 residents.
The territory gained municipal status on January 22, 1995, when it separated from various parishes that were previously part of Maracaibo administration.
Each of the seven parishes in San Francisco Municipality maintains its own local identity through regular community gatherings and traditional celebrations throughout the year.
The General Rafael Urdaneta Bridge links San Francisco with Santa Rita, connecting major highways Troncal 3 and Troncal 6 across the Tablazo Strait.
La Chinita International Airport operates within the municipal boundaries, while the Zulia Metropolitan Zoo and botanical garden provide natural spaces for residents.
