Hospital Universitario de Maracaibo

The Hospital Universitario de Maracaibo is a major medical center in western Venezuela with extensive facilities for patient care and research. It houses departments for internal medicine, general surgery, pediatrics, and operates a dedicated maternity ward called Castillo Plaza.

The hospital project began during the 1950s under President Marcos Perez Jimenez and opened in November 1960 with 605 beds. It was designed as a modern medical center to improve healthcare services across the region.

The hospital maintains close ties with the University of Zulia, functioning as a teaching and research hub for medical professionals in the region. It continues to shape how medical education and healthcare are practiced in western Venezuela.
