Centro de Arte Lía de Bermúdez, Art center in Maracaibo, Venezuela.
The Centro de Arte Lía de Bermúdez is a six-story rectangular building with perimeter galleries, large arched openings, and stained glass windows. It houses multiple exhibition spaces, an auditorium, and event areas for various artistic activities.
The building was originally built as a municipal market in 1886 and was converted to an art center in 1990. The transformation followed architect José Espósito's vision of repurposing the historic structure for artistic uses.
The center displays contemporary and traditional art forms that shape the cultural life of the region. The exhibitions and performances reflect the artistic movements that bring together artists and audiences today.
The center is located on Avenida Libertador between Avenues 5 and 6. Visitors should note that the building is easy to access and offers multiple entry points to different exhibition and event spaces.
The building combines Art Nouveau architecture with an iron structure imported from London in 1928, topped by a central dome. This dome functions as a skylight system and creates a distinctive visual feature inside.
