Palacio de los Cóndores, Government palace in Maracaibo, Venezuela.
Palacio de los Cóndores is a two-story government palace in Maracaibo featuring a U-shaped layout with columned porticos facing Bolivar Square. The building now houses executive offices and serves as the venue for official state ceremonies.
The building was constructed between 1841 and 1868 under Governor José Escolástico Andrade's initiative, replacing the former city jail and council house. A significant renovation in 1926 transformed its appearance.
The Hall of Mirrors hosted the first performance of Zulia State's anthem in 1909. This room shows how the building served as a setting for important cultural moments in the region's history.
The palace sits on Bolivar Square and is easy to locate in the city center. Visitors should note it is an active government building with restricted access to certain areas.
The 1926 renovation added distinctive condor sculptures at the building corners, which inspired the palace's memorable name. An interior courtyard called the Patio of Lions was also created during this period, featuring a garden space within the structure.
