Isla Los Pájaros

Isla Los Pájaros is a nature reserve island in Zulia, Venezuela, characterized by extensive mangrove forests that provide habitat for green turtles and multiple seabird species. The landscape developed through natural sediment accumulation and now forms a significant ecological zone in the northwestern part of the country.

The island formed through sediment deposits carried by water flow and accumulated over an extended period. This gradual natural process shaped the geographical features and ecological conditions that exist today.

Local fishermen from Santa Rita municipality maintain traditional fishing practices in the waters surrounding the island, following generations of maritime customs.

The island is accessible only by private boat from Santa Rita, so visitors need to arrange trips with local boat operators beforehand. There are no facilities or regular transport services on the island, making advance planning essential.

Five seabird species, including laughing gulls and brown noddies, nest within the dense mangrove forests of the island. These breeding colonies represent some of the most distinctive features of the ecosystem.
