Infiernillo Dam, Embankment dam and hydroelectric station in La Unión, Mexico
The Infiernillo Dam is an embankment structure stretching 344 meters across the Balsas River with an attached power station. Six turbine generators use the water to produce electricity for the surrounding region.
Construction of this facility began in 1962, with the reservoir filling starting in 1964. Its completion marked an important step in providing power to Guerrero state.
The dam links Guerrero and Michoacán, serving communities along the Balsas River with water and electricity. Local people use the reservoir for fishing and irrigation, which shapes their everyday lives.

The structure contains approximately 5.5 million cubic meters of material and creates a reservoir with capacity for 12 billion cubic meters of water. This storage capacity makes it one of Mexico's largest hydroelectric installations.
