Tenango del Valle, Administrative division in State of Mexico, Mexico.

Tenango del Valle is a municipality in the State of Mexico located in a highland valley southwest of Mexico City. The town sits at around 2,600 meters elevation and contains residential neighborhoods, administrative buildings, and several historic churches.

After Spanish conquest, indigenous peoples relocated from the ancient center of Teotenango into the valley below. The modern municipality took its present form in the 1800s.

The Parish of the Assumption of Mary features Baroque architecture from the 16th century, while the Temple of El Calvario displays Neoclassical elements. Both religious buildings shape the town center and serve as gathering places for the community.

The location is accessible by mountain roads that can become slippery during rain. Visitors should allow time to adjust to the high elevation and bring warm clothing for cool mountain air.

The name comes from the ancient walled city of Teotenango, which stood on a nearby ridge and holds archaeological remains from pre-Hispanic times. These ruins still draw visitors who wish to explore the earlier settlement.
