Villa Guerrero Municipality, Municipal administrative division in Villa Guerrero, Mexico.
Villa Guerrero Municipality is an administrative division in Mexico situated on the southern slopes of Nevado de Toluca mountain and covers roughly 268 square kilometers. The region in the State of Mexico is dominated by flower farms and agricultural areas.
The area was originally named Tequaloyan by Náhuatl speakers, a name referencing wild animals in the region, before being renamed in 1867. This change marked a turning point in the area's development.
Japanese immigrants transformed flower cultivation practices here starting in the 1930s, making it a major production hub. The local way of life today revolves around the rhythms of planting, growing, and harvesting blooms.
Visitors can explore the local flower market Central de Abasto, where wholesale and retail operations work daily with fresh cut flowers and plants. Early morning hours offer the best time to visit when activity is at its peak.
More than 700 flower producers operate across the region, specializing particularly in roses and gerberas. This high concentration of farming operations makes it one of Latin America's largest flower production centers.
