Six Flags México, Amusement park in Tlalpan, Mexico City, Mexico
Six Flags México is an amusement park in southern Mexico City divided into several themed zones with roller coasters, family rides and water attractions. Each zone follows a different architectural style inspired by various countries and traditions.
The park opened in 1982 under a different name and passed through two rebranding phases before joining the Six Flags chain in 1999. During its early years it operated a marine animal facility that was later closed.
The Mexican-themed section recreates a small village square with colorful facades and food stalls selling local snacks and drinks. Mariachi bands often perform in this area, adding sound and movement to the scene.
The site lies south of the city center and is easiest to reach by private car or taxi along the Picacho-Ajusco road. Weekends and school holidays draw larger crowds, so arriving early in the morning helps avoid the longest waits.
In the early 1990s Keiko the orca lived here before starring in the film Free Willy. The whale left the park in 1996 for Oregon and was later released into Icelandic waters.
