Tláhuac, Administrative division in southeastern Mexico City, Mexico
Tláhuac is a borough in the southeastern part of the capital between built-up neighborhoods and open countryside. The area comprises several smaller settlements that sit across gentle slopes and flat terrain partly mixed with farmland and green zones.
The settlement was founded in the early 13th century and later absorbed by the Aztecs, who introduced farming techniques here. During colonial times, Christian chapels and parishes grew around the old village centers.
The Seven Original Towns of Tláhuac maintain distinct identities through their celebrations, architecture, and traditions dating from colonial and indigenous periods.
Metro Line 12 links the borough with downtown and several stations along the main avenue. Visitors heading to the rural sections should expect longer walks or local minibuses.
The Lago de los Reyes Aztecas within the borough serves as an urban nature reserve where migratory birds stop and native fish spawn. Visitors see herons and ducks along the shoreline, especially during spring and autumn migration periods.
