Laguna de Las Ilusiones, Urban lagoon in Villahermosa, Mexico.
Laguna de Las Ilusiones is a large water body in central Villahermosa surrounded by native trees and vegetation. A pedestrian boardwalk runs along the shoreline and connects different areas where visitors can move through the landscape.
The water body received its current name in 1929 when a state governor decided to develop it as the focal point for official celebrations. This original purpose shaped how the place was planned and built.
The name comes from a governor's vision to make this place the center of state celebrations in the early 20th century. Today, locals use the waterside paths for walks and to watch native bird species that nest here.
The boardwalk is easy to walk on and has several entry points along the waterfront where visitors can explore freely. There are also elevated viewpoints that provide better sightlines across the water and the surrounding area.
In certain areas along the shore, mechanical fountains shoot water in choreographed patterns across the surface. This artificial feature surprises many visitors who initially expect a natural-looking water body.
