Hilton Palacio del Rio, hotel in San Antonio, United States
The Hilton Palacio del Rio is a 21-story hotel in downtown San Antonio with 485 rooms located directly beside the Riverwalk. The building combines modern design with Spanish hacienda style, offering rooms with views of either the river or the city skyline.
The hotel was built specifically for the 1968 HemisFair World's Fair and completed in less than seven months. It was among the first large buildings to use modular construction techniques, with guest rooms prefabricated at a factory seven miles away and then assembled on-site.
The name Palacio del Rio references the Spanish hacienda style common to South Texas, and this heritage appears throughout the interiors with colorful textiles and locally-made furnishings. Visitors can see how the design connects the hotel to the region's cultural roots.
The hotel sits in a central location near the convention center and many historical attractions, making it easy to explore the city. A spacious lobby and multiple room categories with modern amenities provide convenient accommodations for any traveler.
Guest rooms were completely furnished and equipped in a factory seven miles away before being lifted into the building with cranes. Construction crews became so efficient that they could install up to 35 rooms in a single day.
