Spring Branch, human settlement in Texas, United States of America
Spring Branch is an unincorporated community in the hills of western Comal County, Texas, approximately 21 miles northwest of New Braunfels. The settlement spreads across quiet land with homes, farms, and wooded areas, fed by a natural spring that flows into the Guadalupe River.
The area was first settled in 1852 by the D. Knibbe family, who established farms and homes relying on the spring and river. A post office opened in 1858 and after the Civil War, mail service was restored under G. Elbel as the first postmaster.
The community is easily accessed via Highway 281 and offers simple accommodations along with small shops nearby. Visitors will find restaurants serving local fare, sporting facilities, and outdoor activities such as boating and fishing on the nearby river.
Construction of Canyon Dam in the mid-1960s transformed the landscape by creating Canyon Lake, which grew the local population from about 25 to roughly 200 residents by 1990. The new lake became a popular spot for water recreation and outdoor leisure.
