Ashton Villa, Victorian mansion in Broadway Boulevard, Galveston, United States.
Ashton Villa is a three-story brick residence with deep eaves, tall windows, ornate porches, and decorative cast iron details. The main floor features a large ballroom while the building maintains a central hall design throughout its layout.
Colonel James Brown built this mansion in 1859, making it among the earliest brick structures in Texas. Its sturdy construction allowed it to survive the devastating 1900 hurricane that swept through the coastal region.
The mansion served as Confederate Army headquarters during the Civil War and later became connected to the first Juneteenth announcement in 1865.
The mansion provides free parking for visitors and includes restroom facilities along with a preparation room on the grounds. Allow time to walk through the different floors and rooms to appreciate the full scope of the building.
The mansion served as Confederate Army headquarters during the Civil War and later became linked to the first public announcement of Juneteenth in 1865. These roles made it a significant location in the local history of emancipation and recognition.
