American General Center, Office buildings complex in Neartown Houston, United States
The American General Center is an office complex in the Midtown area of Houston, made up of several tall buildings that each carry their own name. The towers share a common campus and together form a single, connected work environment.
The complex was built in the 1980s around the headquarters of American General Corporation, one of the country's leading insurance groups at the time. After AIG acquired the company in 2001, the main tenants changed, but the name of the complex stayed.
The complex is home to the headquarters of Corebridge Financial, one of the largest life insurance companies in the country. This gives the site a notable weight in Houston's business world that goes beyond ordinary office use.
The campus sits along Allen Parkway, one of the main roads linking Midtown to Downtown Houston, making it easy to reach by car or on foot from nearby streets. Parking is available on site, which makes a weekday visit straightforward.
Although the complex takes its name from American General Corporation, that company has not existed independently for over 20 years, having been absorbed by AIG. It is an unusual case where a corporate name has outlasted the company that once defined the place.
