Colt Stadium, Baseball stadium in Houston, United States
Colt Stadium was a baseball stadium in Houston with a single-tier grandstand extending from foul line to foul line and bleacher sections lining the outfield. The facility contained around 33,000 seats arranged in a horseshoe shape, with multicolored sections marking different seating areas throughout.
The stadium hosted the Houston Colt .45s' first Major League Baseball game on April 10, 1962, a victory against the Chicago Cubs with a score of 11-2. After operating for three seasons, it closed in 1964 when the team relocated to a permanent new facility.
The stadium's name references the Houston Colt .45s, named after the famous revolver of the Wild West, which embodied the adventure and pioneer spirit the newly founded baseball team represented. This symbolism connected the sport to Houston's regional identity and history.
The stadium sat in a residential neighborhood and was easily accessible by car through local roads. Visitors attending summer games should have expected intense heat, as the open-air facility provided limited shade from the sun.
After closing in 1964, the entire stadium structure was dismantled and relocated to Mexico, where it served baseball teams in Torreon and Tampico. This relocation made it one of the rare baseball stadiums to receive a second life in a different country.
