Kopperl, Unincorporated community in Bosque County, Texas, United States
Kopperl is a small unincorporated community located on the northwestern edge of Lake Whitney in Bosque County. The settlement sits in a rural area where the lake dominates the local landscape and recreational opportunities.
The settlement began in 1881 as a railroad stop along the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway, taking its name from banker Moritz Kopperl. The rail line brought economic activity to the area and enabled the movement of cotton and livestock.
The Santa Fe Railroad played a central role in the community's development, facilitating cotton farming and cattle transportation in the region.
Visitors can fish, boat, and enjoy water activities at the lake, while the surrounding area has straightforward road access. The best time to explore is during moderate weather when lake activities are in full swing.
In 1960, the area experienced a rare weather event called Satan's Storm by locals, which brought unusual temperature spikes when a thunderstorm collapsed. This extreme phenomenon remains a notable part of the area's weather history.
