Comanche Creek Reservoir, reservoir in Hood County, Somervell County, Texas, United States of America
Comanche Creek Reservoir is a large body of water in Hood County, Texas, covering over 3,200 acres and reaching depths of 135 feet (41 meters). The clear, calm water features rocky shores, submerged trees, and surroundings with open areas mixed with reeds and patches of vegetation.
The reservoir was created in 1977 by damming a creek and quickly became popular for fishing. After closing from 2001 to 2010 due to security concerns, it reopened and has been actively managed since then.
The area is open Thursday through Sunday with early morning to late afternoon hours, while weekdays are staffed only by park personnel. Boaters should reserve ahead of time since demand is high at the boat launches located along the shoreline.
Tilapia, an invasive species, thrives here in large numbers and is caught by many anglers using cast nets, which is legal and popular for food. The lake was also stocked with Palmetto Bass to control other fish populations, though this species is rarely encountered today.
