Granbury, County seat in Hood County, Texas, United States.
Granbury is a county seat in northern Texas that sits on the shore of a man-made lake surrounded by gentle hills. The town center preserves a historic streetscape with nineteenth-century brick buildings around the central square.
The town was founded in 1860 just before the Civil War, when the settlement became the administrative center of the newly created county. Reconstruction after the war brought the brick architecture that still defines the square today.
The opera house draws theater visitors who come to watch both regional and touring productions in a renovated auditorium. Many residents gather in the cafés and shops around the historic town square, which serves as a meeting point for local events.
The central square is easy to explore on foot, and free parking is available on several surrounding streets. Those wanting to reach the lake will find public access points with piers and green spaces along the waterfront.
A fragment of the battleship Arizona, sunk at Pearl Harbor in 1941, stands in front of City Hall as a reminder of the crew. The metal piece was given to the town because one of the sailors who died came from this area.
