The Chickasaw Nation founded this school in 1852 as a boarding institution for girls and operated it for over six decades. Federal government control took over in 1898, marking a major shift in how the school was managed.

This school served Chickasaw women who learned academic subjects alongside practical skills like needlework and household management. The combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training shaped how the community prepared its daughters for adulthood.
