The electoral district was created following the 2010 census through redistricting and was officially established in 2012. Steve Stockman served as the first representative for the area in the 113th United States Congress.
The area is home to many different communities living and working together in towns and rural areas. These varied populations shape the local culture and everyday life throughout the region.
Citizens within the district boundaries can participate in congressional elections held every two years. Voter registration can be completed at local election offices, which also provide information about election dates and polling locations.
The Johnson Space Center, headquarters for American human spaceflight operations, is located within this electoral district. This major facility makes the region central to space exploration work and astronaut training programs.
