Lake Charles

Lake Charles is a city in Louisiana that follows the course of the Calcasieu River and Prien Lake in the southwestern part of the state. Residential neighborhoods alternate with shopping centers and commercial zones, while parks and waterfront areas provide access to the water.

The settlement was first called Charleston and was renamed Lake Charles in 1867 after pioneer Charles Sallier. The location along the river supported the growth of trade and industry in the following decades.
