Grand Village of the Natchez, Archaeological site with ceremonial mounds in Natchez, Mississippi, US

The Grand Village spans 128 acres containing three reconstructed prehistoric platform mounds, a museum, and nature trails along St. Catherine Creek.

Between 1200 and 1730 CE, the Plaquemine culture and later the Natchez people constructed and expanded these mounds for religious ceremonies.

The site preserves artifacts, traditional structures, and evidence of Native American ceremonies, including the sacred eternal fire atop Temple Mound.

Visitors can explore the museum from Monday to Saturday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, and Sundays from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM without admission fees.

Twenty-six human burials discovered within Mound C confirm French colonial records describing this location as a ceremonial burial ground.
