Grand Bay National Wildlife Refuge, Wildlife refuge in coastal Mississippi, US
The Grand Bay National Wildlife Refuge spans 36,597 acres across Mississippi and Alabama, featuring salt marshes, tidal wetlands, maritime forests, and pine savannas.
Created in 1992 under the Emergency Wetlands Resources Act of 1986, this refuge protects one of the largest remaining Gulf Coast wet pine savanna habitats.
The refuge functions as an educational center where visitors learn about local ecosystems through ranger programs and nature interpretation activities.
Visitors can access the Grand Bay Coastal Resources Center from Monday to Friday between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, except during state holidays.
The refuge contains nine species of carnivorous plants, including pitcher plants, butterworts, and sundews, which capture insects for nitrogen absorption.
