Mobile International Speedway, NASCAR race track
Mobile International Speedway is a half-mile racing track in Alabama with an oval asphalt surface where various classes of racing cars compete regularly. The facility holds approximately 9,000 spectators and features a wooden and metal grandstand with 15 rows offering clear views of the racing action.
The speedway was built in the 1960s on former farmland and became an important racing destination in the region. Over the decades, it hosted races from major series including NASCAR and ARCA.
The speedway serves as a gathering place for the local racing community, where families and fans come together to share their passion for the sport. The weekend races reflect how much this venue matters to people in the surrounding area.
The speedway offers free parking on a large grass lot and is easily accessible from Highway 90 south of Mobile. The main entrance has steep stairs, but wheelchair access is available between Turns 3 and 4.
The speedway served as a filming location for scenes in the 2009 movie The Final Destination, giving the place a touch of Hollywood history. Additionally, Lee Fields, a longtime operator and promoter of the venue, was also a successful local professional wrestler.
