Navarre, Residential area in Santa Rosa County, Florida, United States.
Navarre is a settlement in Santa Rosa County, Florida, United States, located on the coastal strip between the Gulf of Mexico and Santa Rosa Sound. The community spreads across a flat coastal landscape with wide sandy areas and low dunes, providing access to beaches and natural reserves in the surroundings.
Spanish explorers discovered the area in the late 17th century and named it Robledal after the oak trees they found there. The naming after Guy Navarre came later, when American settlers established themselves permanently during the 19th century.
The community takes its name from an early settler named Guy Navarre, who established himself in the area and shaped its development. Local residents today divide their time between the military installations nearby and the beaches along the Gulf coast.
The settlement lies roughly 25 miles (40 kilometers) east of Pensacola and is accessible via roads that run along the coast. Visitors will find public beach access and parking near the shoreline, especially close to the beach sections and marine park.
A memorial near Santa Rosa Sound honors those who died in a Black Hawk helicopter crash in 2015, which claimed several lives. The monument stands close to the spot where the military aircraft went down into the water.
