St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Gothic Revival church in Dallas County, Alabama.
St. Luke's is a white wooden church in the Gothic Revival style that stands in Dallas County, Alabama. The building displays characteristic features like pointed arch windows, arched doorways, and vertical board siding on its exterior.
The church was built in 1854 in Cahaba, Alabama's first capital, and moved to Martin's Station in 1878. The relocation took place during the post-Civil War period, when many communities had to reassess their structures.
The church served different congregations over the decades, reflecting its varied past. Visitors can see how the space was adapted for different faith communities.
The building is now located at Old Cahawba Archaeological Park, where visitors can walk around it and view the architectural details from the outside. The park offers a quiet setting to explore the area and its regional history.
Between 2006 and 2008, Auburn University students carefully dismantled and reassembled the church to preserve its original construction. This process not only saved the building but also documented 19th-century building techniques.
