The neighborhood features notable structures including Dallas Academy from 1889, Sturdivant Hall, and the First Baptist Church constructed in 1904.

The district expanded its protected area on December 15, 2003, strengthening the preservation of Selma's architectural heritage at 41 meters above sea level.
