Talladega Gran Prix Raceway, American race track
Talladega Gran Prix Raceway, also called Little Tally by locals, is a racing track in Alabama located about 3 miles southwest of Munford. The 1.33 mile course with ten turns hosts driver training sessions, motorcycle schools, and various racing events throughout the year.
Built in fall 1985 by brothers David and Mike Upchurch and Gerald Rhodes on a former cattle farm, the track was created to give local racers an affordable place to practice nearby. In 2000 the entire surface was repaved and the middle section was lengthened, followed by another redesign in 2007 to modernize the layout.
The name comes from the nearby Talladega National Forest that defines the region. The track is used mainly by local racing teams and motorsport enthusiasts who come here to practice and test their skills in a relaxed setting.
The track is located about 15 miles south of Interstate 20 Exit 185 and can be accessed via Alabama Highway 21. Arrive early if you plan to participate in driver training or events, and plan time for safety briefings and registration processes.
Unlike most racing tracks, this facility was built without fixed barriers around the course specifically to reduce injury risk for motorcycle riders in case of falls. This deliberate design choice makes it notably safer for two-wheeled vehicles compared to traditional barrier-enclosed tracks.
