Gelora Bangkalan Stadium was built in 2012 with a seating capacity of 15,000. Its construction was also intended to support the neighbouring city of Surabaya's bid for the 2019 Asian Games. Persepam Madura United used it for home games, and Persebaya Surabaya temporarily played there for the 2013 Indonesian Premier League while Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium was being renovated.

The facility serves as a gathering place where locals spend time before and during matches, and a dedicated food court area offers traditional Madurese cuisine from community vendors. This shows how the space connects sporting events with everyday social life.

The stadium is located on Jalan Soekarno-Hatta and easy to find, with clear signage and directions for visitors. Accessible entrances and seating areas are available for people with reduced mobility.

The stadium was built in 2012 partly to back Surabaya's bid to host the 2019 Asian Games. When Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya was being renovated, Persebaya Surabaya played its 2013 Indonesian Premier League home games here instead.
