Cobar Post Office

The red brick post office building features an Italianate-styled arched entryway and decorative moldings along its front facade at 47 Linsley Street.

James Barnet designed this postal facility in 1885, following a petition made to the Postmaster General for establishing mail service between Bourke and Cobar Mine.

The building represents the development of postal communications in rural New South Wales during the copper mining expansion of the late nineteenth century.

The structure maintains its original purpose as a working post office while preserving architectural elements such as timber arch brackets and stone window sills.

Between 1907 and 1909, architect Walter Vernon directed extensions that created an asymmetrical parapeted single-story screen concealing a taller gable-roofed structure behind.
