Cooroora Masonic Temple, Heritage-listed Masonic temple in Pomona, Queensland.
Cooroora Masonic Temple is a wooden building in Pomona with hardwood chamferboard walls and a corrugated iron gabled roof situated on Station Street. Its interior features painted wall decorations that cover the surfaces throughout the main gathering space.
Construction began in 1923 through community volunteers and the building opened that same year for Lodge meetings. It served as the active meeting place for the local Masonic order for more than 80 years until membership declined.
The painted interior walls reflect the importance members placed on creating a refined gathering space with artistic detail. This decoration shaped how visitors experienced the temple's purpose as a meeting place for the community.
The temple sits on Station Street in central Pomona and is identifiable by its distinctive wooden structure with gabled roof. Access to the interior may be limited, so checking ahead about viewing opportunities is recommended.
The interior murals were created by a local artist drawing inspiration from international design sources and have survived largely unchanged since their completion. These painted walls represent a rare example of hand-executed decorative work from the early 20th century in regional Queensland.
