Westlake Village, Planned city in western Los Angeles County, United States.

Westlake Village is a city in western Los Angeles County, California, that extends partly into Ventura County. An artificial lake divides both sections, with residential areas and commercial zones running along its shores.

In 1963 the American-Hawaiian Steamship Company began building this suburban community on land from Russell Ranch, which had been used for cattle operations. Development continued over several decades and shaped the present-day city.

The name comes from the artificial lake at its center, surrounded by neighborhoods and business districts. Today many residents work at the headquarters of international companies that have settled here.

The boundary between two counties runs through the middle of the city, so each part follows different local regulations. Visitors can find parks and walking paths along the lake shores.

Las Virgenes Reservoir sits entirely within city limits and is the only water body without a county boundary. The larger Westlake Lake, however, splits between two different counties.
