Moorpark, Residential city in Ventura County, California.
Moorpark is a residential city in Ventura County in southern California, located roughly 50 miles (80 km) northwest of downtown Los Angeles. The city sits in a valley surrounded by hills and agricultural land, close to the coastal region.
The land was granted to Robert W. Poindexter in 1887, who laid out the street plan and planted pepper trees in the downtown area. By the 1950s it became one of the first communities to use commercial nuclear power for street lighting.
The Moorpark College Exotic Animal Training and Management program educates students in wildlife care while maintaining Ventura County's single public observatory.
The Metrolink station provides regular weekday service to Los Angeles Union Station and Oxnard, with trains running from early morning until late evening. Visitors can explore the area on foot or by car, with parking generally easy to find in residential neighborhoods.
Moorpark College runs an exotic animal training and management program where students learn to care for wildlife. The same county also hosts Ventura County's only public observatory.
