Simi Adobe-Strathearn House, Historic adobe house in Simi Valley, United States.
The Simi Adobe-Strathearn House combines a Victorian residence built in 1892 with an original adobe structure from 1810, situated within a historical park. The two building sections display distinctly different architectural styles and construction methods from separate historical periods.
The Pico family built the original adobe structure after receiving the Rancho Simi Land Grant in 1795 as the center of their vast landholding. Later, the Strathearn family became owners and constructed a Victorian house around the older adobe rooms in 1892.
The house displays furnishings and objects from two distinct periods: the Spanish colonial era within the adobe rooms and the Victorian times of the Strathearn family. This side-by-side arrangement shows how life at this location evolved across generations.
Visitors can explore the house through guided tours led by knowledgeable docents who explain the architectural features of each room. The best time to visit is on weekends or weekdays when the site is open for tours.
Rather than demolishing the crumbling adobe structure, the Strathearn family integrated it into their new Victorian house and preserved two original adobe rooms. This unusual choice allows visitors today to see both building periods under a single roof.
