The Chatsworth Nature Preserve spans 1,325 acres of oak woodlands, grasslands, riparian areas, and vernal pools in the northwestern section of Los Angeles.
The property transformed from Chatsworth Reservoir, which operated from 1919 to 1972, into a nature preserve through Los Angeles City Ordinance 169723 in 1994.
Scientific research teams conduct annual bird counts and environmental studies within the preserve, contributing to local ecological knowledge and conservation efforts.
Visitors can access the preserve through the Valley Circle Boulevard gate, where street parking is available, during the annual Earth Day celebration.
The preserve contains the Chatsworth Calera, a historic limestone kiln designated as Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument 141 in April 1975.
