The building features a cylindrical rotunda with a saucer dome and extends through arcaded wings toward the north and east sections.
Constructed in 1929 as one of the original six buildings in Westwood Village, the store opened alongside the University of California Los Angeles campus.
The Mediterranean style architecture of the building established design standards for commercial structures in Westwood Village during the early twentieth century.
The structure received recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992 and maintains its status as a Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument.
Photographer Ansel Adams captured images of this architectural landmark in 1940, documenting its significance in Los Angeles commercial development.
