Sochagota Lake, Artificial lake in Paipa, Colombia.
The lake stretches over 1.5 square kilometers at an altitude of 2496 meters, containing 4.5 million cubic meters of water with an average depth of 3 meters.
The construction of Sochagota Lake began in 1955 under Governor Emiro Fonseca Franky's initiative and was completed in 1956 with support from General Gustavo Rojas Pinilla.
The name Sochagota derives from the Chibcha language, where 'Socha' translates to 'water of the moon' in the indigenous dialect of the region.
The lake perimeter features hotels, restaurants, and recreational facilities, offering water sports activities and walking paths for visitors throughout the year.
The water body integrates thermal mineral springs from Paipa's geothermal system, making it part of an important ecological corridor in central Boyacá.
