Cárcel de Cómbita, Maximum security prison in Cómbita, Colombia.
Cárcel de Cómbita is a high-security prison facility in the Boyacá department of Colombia with multiple security zones and a specialized layout. The installation contains separate building blocks with distinct areas, each serving different detention and management functions.
The facility opened in 2002 and became one of Colombia's primary maximum-security prisons for the most serious offenders. A major expansion in the 2010s added new buildings and infrastructure to increase capacity.
The prison architecture follows design principles from United States supermax facilities, built under guidance from the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The facility is not open for casual visits due to its high-security classification. Information about the installation is available only through official government channels.
The facility houses 1600 inmates including terrorists, drug traffickers, and paramilitary members requiring the highest level of containment in Colombia.
