Bosque de la República

Bosque de la República is a national monument in central Tunja featuring stone pathways, fountains, statues, a lake, and a music pavilion inscribed with references to independence battles on its roof. The layout integrates multiple elements that together form a cohesive memorial space.

The monument was established to honor the independence battles of Vargas and Boyacá, particularly commemorating leaders Niño and Vasquez who were executed in 1816. The Martyrs Wall marks the location of these pivotal events that shaped the region's liberation movement.

The entrance gate displays columns inscribed with the names of municipalities from the Boyacá region, connecting visitors to a shared regional identity and memory. These inscriptions create a sense of collective belonging tied to independence.
