Iglesia de Santo Domingo, Colonial church in Tunja, Colombia
The Santo Domingo Church exhibits intricate stonework on its facade, with two forty-meter-high brick towers rising above the streets of Tunja.
Construction began in 1562 under Brother Tomas Galiano, transforming from a simple adobe structure into a substantial religious edifice completed in 1569.
The church holds colonial canvases depicting fifteen mysteries of the rosary, preserved in gold leaf frames dating from the 1700s.
Located in central Tunja, the church maintains regular visiting hours and continues to hold religious services for the local community.
The building features the largest bells in the city, including the Ronca Moreno bell measuring 2.6 meters wide and producing deep resonating sounds.
