Ex-Hacienda de Peñuelas

Ex-Hacienda de Peñuelas is a historic estate in Aguascalientes built with adobe walls, wooden beams, and brick construction with quarry stone decorations framing its windows and arches. A garden entrance guides visitors through the main reception areas of the complex.

The estate was founded in 1575 by Nicolas Ramirez from the merger of three separate properties. This combination created a larger operation that maintained economic importance across several centuries.

The first courtyard shows traditional half-round arches with square columns and benches decorated with majolica tiles. These elements reflect Mexican building craftsmanship that visitors can observe when walking through the space.

The property is best explored on foot since the main buildings spread across connected courtyards. Comfortable shoes are recommended because the historic paved surfaces are uneven in places.

The name Peñuelas comes from the numerous rock formations that once characterized the surrounding landscape. These natural features gave the area and the estate their name.
