Palmetto Bay, village in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States of America
Palmetto Bay is a village in the southern part of Miami-Dade County, situated between the Biscayne Bay shoreline and inland residential areas. It covers the former communities of Cutler and East Perrine, and borders Pinecrest to the north and Coral Gables to the northwest.
The area grew from farming settlements and pioneer communities in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In 2002, residents voted to incorporate as an independent village, separating from the unincorporated parts of Miami-Dade County.
The place retains traces of its past through buildings and pathways that show how early settlers shaped the area. Today, residents gather in parks and at local shops to strengthen their sense of community and connection to the neighborhood.
The village is easy to get around on foot or by bike, with safe paths and a warm climate that makes outdoor activity possible most of the year. A free on-demand ride service called Freebee covers trips within the village, which is useful if you want to move between parks or local shops without a car.
The Deering Estate, built in the early 20th century by the businessman Charles Deering, is one of the few historic waterfront properties in South Florida that still has its original buildings standing. The grounds include nature trails that pass through coastal habitats rarely seen this close to a major city.
