Cayo Levantado is an island in Samaná Bay with expansive white sand beaches lined by coconut palms that meet clear turquoise waters. The island rises about 24 meters high and is covered with tropical vegetation that frames the shoreline.
The island received its name in 1690 when English corsair Jack Banister led an uprising there. This event shaped the place and remains embedded in its name today.

From January to March, humpback whales use the waters around the island as a passage route during their migration between continents. Visitors can watch these massive creatures from the beach as they pass by.
